'THE KEYSER SÖZE OF THE CANADIAN RIGHT'
Who He?

Un(der)employed
freelance writer and editor Kevin Michael Grace is a living
refutation of Ned Rorem's claim that one cannot be both
despised and unknown. His opinions have made him persona
non grata in his native land, but this is more a comment
on invertebrate Canada than a proof of any great courage
on his part.
Since
November 2002, the primary outlet for KMG's journalism has
been his "blog," The Ambler. Named for his love
of walking - and a sly reference to his fecklessness—The
Ambler has been, notwithstanding consistent neglect and
regular hardware crises, viewed by over 400,000 visitors.
A Brief CV
A
college dropout, KMG worked at the University of British
Columbia Library for 12 years. He did not become a member
of the "media" until 1986, when a chance
introduction led to him becoming a producer at CJOR Radio
in Vancouver. He later produced shows for CJCA Radio and
CFRN-TV in Edmonton, KOGO Radio in San Diego and Canada's
WIC Radio Network.
From
1994 to 2003 KMG worked for the Report magazines owned by
the "colourful" Byfield clan. He served
variously as reporter, editor, managing editor and head
of production and wrote two columns, Eclectica (a review
of media and society) and Galaxy 500 (a review of
television and society), both fondly remembered, if only
by their author. He has also been published in the
Vancouver Sun, the Ottawa Citizen, the Montreal
Gazette,
the Provincial & Territorial Report, the American
Spectator, Brainwash, Chronicles, Gilbert
Magazine,
National Review, the National Catholic Register,
Catholic World Report, VDARE
and on CBC Radio.
KMG
is of Irish and Welsh extraction. His father's family came
to Canada in 1820, and his mother immigrated from Britain
in 1948.
For his sins, he was
born in Toronto in 1955. After two years in Sudbury,
Ontario, he moved in 1962 to Vancouver, where he lived
until 2001, except for five years in Edmonton and six
months in San Diego. He now resides in Victoria.
What
They Are Saying About The Ambler
"One
of the most reactionary and Neanderthal of
conservatives"
—Mark Steyn
"Kevin Michael Grace can write, but that doesn't mean
he belongs in the [National] Post or any other
mainstream media outlet"—
Warren
Kinsella
"Implacably hostile"—Colby
Cosh
"A depressing read"—Paul
Cella
"He
is the classic, cranky conservative—occasionally funny
and incisive, but a little goes a long way"—Russ
Kuykendall
"Seriously
out of touch with reality"—Charles Oliver
"KMG
is entitled to his opinions, but it doesn't strike me as
the type of advice that will advance conservative
causes"—Kevin Jaeger
"Grow
up or !%$# off"—Kathy Shaidle
"I
have never heard of either Keyser Söze or you"—Kate
McMillan
Beliefs And Interests
Despite
the above, KMG considers himself a reasonable fellow. He
abandoned "conservative causes" after
"conservatism" was hijacked by corporatists, Manchester liberals,
multiculturalists, rent seekers, Straussians, Trotskyites
and other riffraff. He believes in community, elitism, free speech
(speech, mind you, not "expression"), limited
government, natural law, original sin, subsidiarity and
tradition. He is a (shamefully
bad) Roman Catholic of the "traditionalist"
persuasion.
When
not engaged in enraging the bien pensants of all parties,
KMG enjoys gossip, reading, smoking, listening to music, watching
sports and getting drunk.
